My surprise from Jessika!

My surprise from Jessika!

I got a wonderful surprise in the mail from none other than my dear Jessika! In it is the fabulous Urban Decay Apocalypse Set, a bronzey polish from The Face Shop and a yummy face mask! AND a whole roll of Bottle Caps all for me! (But I shared, lol.) More pics follow!

Urban Decay Apocalypse Set

Urban Decay Apocalypse Set

And here’s the gem I got in the mail! Really beautiful colors. I bought this for another friend awhile back and drooled over it then, and then voila’! There’s one at my door! So I sat back last night, did my nails in Apocalypse and deep conditioned my hair, did a face mask with the mask Jessika also sent me and ate my Bottle Caps with a couple glasses of wine! A wonderful evening! Thanks, sweetie! I sure needed one!

Broken Nail disaster avoided…for now!

Broken index nail!

Broken index nail!

I ended up making the nail last until I could get to Sally’s, where the SAs are SO NOT helpful. They didn’t have a single product I needed other than nail glue. So off I go with my nail glue and teensy buffer file. I glue the top and bottom, buff the top and once polish is on I can’t tell it’s there! I suspect it will continue to split, however, and all I can say is that I’m sorry I didn’t practice more painting with my other hand! You can see the break past the vnl curving towards my finger. Pretty deep, so it’ll be a loss when it comes off. :( Oh, well! Nails grow!

Disaster has struck!

August 30th, 2010 by Toni | 4 Comments | Filed in Blathering about what today?

I cracked the left hand index fingernail to the nub almost halfway across. It’s clinging for dear life and wishing for emergency transportation to get to Sally’s pronto. (But that’s not happening tonight, sadly.) I’m wondering if it shall last the night? Perhaps… perhaps not. What would you do? Cut them all off or live with one nubbin?

Thanks, Jessika!

So I go to the NARS counter…

August 5th, 2010 by Toni | 2 Comments | Filed in Blathering about what today?

and I’m not as thrilled as I wanted to be. But I did end up with 4 more polishes, which I’ll review soon. I have many untrieds that I love and want to be added. The time I took off for the move reaaally set me back here!

However, the lady at the counter offered a makeover, to let me try the polishes, made an appt for a makeover, which apparently I need pretty badly, lol. She was super sweet and I really appreciated it. If you have access to McChord-Ft.Lewis, go to the McChord Exhange! It’s so much nicer and calmer.

Mineral Mystery!

August 2nd, 2010 by Toni | 3 Comments | Filed in Blathering about what today?, Minerals

I just can’t seem to get the hang of minerals. Foundation and blush, no problem. Eyeshadow, impossible. It gets in my very sensitive eyes, despite my use of primers and such, so I think they’ll have to go to a new home. :(   I’m sad about this because they’re so beautiful when I get them on right! If you have other secrets to keeping that eyeshadow on, please pass it on!

Skincare anew.

August 2nd, 2010 by Toni | No Comments | Filed in Blathering about what today?, Skin Care

So it turns out I have an allergy in something (glycolic acids, likely) that made my skin a mess with the LH Works skincare. Sad but it happens.

I weaned myself from everything except Abolene makeup remover, DHC Pure Soap and Neutrogena Anti-Stress Toner. That helped alot and my most troublesome acne went away and my pores got smaller.

I began using Tazorac (a Retin-A) and got some peeling, but it’s been worth it. It has cleary unclogged my pores and is helping my skin, so I’ll continue on this path until it stops working and I have to try something else!

Hope this helps someone else.

A little about our move and the new place, with some additional cute photos!

My View

My View

Here’s my lovely view from our new place on the lake. Loving every minute of it. Peace, relaxation and fun.

Our Bandit

Our Bandit

Being by the lake, we see all sorts of critters, and this guy came to visit and have a nibble of whatever we left outside. He’s very polite, eats one or two and leaves the rest, haha. He even re-wrapped the package of burger buns and put them back! He did totally pig out on some corn I roasted for him, though!

Maggie and Toffee

Maggie and Toffee

My dog and cat love each other, and here’s a little pic of them playing. Mags has one blue eye, so she looks a little different. Toff does not mind going into her mouth, as you can see, lol!

Here’s Toffee obediently sitting for a photo with a peace frog James got for me. She’s such a good kitty!

Hope you enjoyed the random pics!

Back in the saddle…. well, it’s still on the sawhorse!

July 22nd, 2010 by Toni | 3 Comments | Filed in Blathering about what today?

So life has thrown us a few curve balls and my nails were the last thing on my mind. (Well, not the VERY last, lol.) Thank you to my friends who have been so supportive and are always there for me… Rozie and Jessica and Jessika, Kesha… I owe you guys big time!! :) You didn’t give up on me!

So the plan is to start polishing like a mad woman again. Since I don’t have time for that, and unlike the darling Polish Insomniac, I sleep, so I have to start slowly. I have no polish storage here so that makes for a helluva time trying to find anything. Time to get the courage going to deal with IKEA for a couple of helmers. I love my acrylic shelves but can’t feel right about making all those holes in the walls of a rental.

I hope my site gets better, it’s so damn bland! I really need to up the ante’ here! I know not squat about programming the site and I’m a slow learner when it comes to technology. If anyone knows wordpress, please help a chick out! SOOoooo frustrating.

Check back in a couple days and I’ll have a new pic up! It’ll be an old polish, haha…. but new to me and maybe you! LOL… I will blather on, won’t I?

Love y’all! Thank you again! Tone

My Valentine’s Swap from Jessika!

Valentine's swap from Jessika

Valentine's swap from Jessika

Okay, not the best picture, but if you click on it, you can see the details (and probably some cat fur) of all the wonderous goodies Jessika sent to me. I have to work on my pics as they’re sucky again since I moved my lightbox. I’m doing something wrong but I sure don’t know what! For one thing, it’s way too small for awesome swaps!!! Back to the point here, I’ll have more (better) pics up soon, but I wanted to get a pic of the lovelies up first! Please note the itty bitty cutest little Sinful nail polish in the world on top of the yummy bottle of RBL spiced floral lotion, the totally cool bookmark (she knows I have a short attention span!), the bottle of Philospy Falling in Love, the vintage Orly in Jungle Love, OPI DS Glow, all the purples and the SpaRitual Days of Wine and Roses, which is a polish that started Jessika and my conversations way back!! Perfumes and goodies galore. Have a look at everything! All so wonderful and special and thoughtful. :D
Thank you for being my Valentine and my friend, Jessika!

My lovely swap from Kesha!

February 9th, 2010 by Toni | 2 Comments | Filed in Blathering about what today?

We were starting to get worried about my package because it took a month to get here! It was worth the wait! Thank you so much for your thoughtful package, Kesha! I love everything in there!!

Here’s the pics!

and all the goodies inside….

Swap Goodies from Kesha!

Swap Goodies from Kesha!

My lightbox is too small for big swap pics, lol! In my box were so many surprises and things I’d not think to get for myself! I love those kind of things! Everything is from Germany, so it’s all this cool stuff I never see here! Nail decals and stencils, neat shaped tip guides, a dotting tool (I needed one!) a file for my purse, yay! Bath Bombs and salts, which I never buy for myself, but love! 2 face masks, another thing I never think of for myself, but sure need! The two pens are cuticle oil and a cuticle remover pen, which are about the neatest things I’ve seen next to the neat shaped tip guides! And to top it all off, lots of polish and candies and a super sweet note!

Here’s the details on the polishes… Kesha found me some BIG bottles of Fantasy Makers in a dark Red and a black… I have never seen these! Also an Essence Whitening polish, which sounds really great since my nails have gotten so yellowed. I cannot wait to try all these fab goodies out!

Fairwind polishes from Kesha

Fairwind polishes from Kesha

These are rockin’! Can’t wait to try them and the Essence polishes. I don’t have a pic of the Essence up close, somehow, but those look fantastic. All the Euopean bottles and containers are so much more intersting than what’s available here.

Next up is UMA Ballroom glitter polish. They come in these wonderful little round bottles and I love it so much, she got me 5! I’m in glitter for awhile! And it’s perfect, too. No color to it, just glorious glitter that goes with every polish you put it over.

And the amazing Xmas present, OPI DS Mystery, which has been on my wishlist for I don’t know how long! It’s absolutely stunning in the bottle and on everyone else, so I think it’s going to do great for me, too!

Now is that amazing, or what?? AMAZZZING!!!!!!!!! Thank you Kesha! I’ll enjoy these for a looooong time ( you hope, right, lol!)

Konad New Plates delayed.

January 28th, 2010 by Toni | 2 Comments | Filed in Blathering about what today?, Konad and frenchies

I received an email from wowsocool.com today after ordering my new plates. They said the plates would be available in late February and shipped out then, so I guess it’s a wait for my polka dot mani! :(   Anyone else hear about this delay?

Thanks, ladies! I love y’all!

Goodies and more goodies!

January 27th, 2010 by Toni | 5 Comments | Filed in Blathering about what today?

I got the most lovely two packages from Jessika stuffed FULL of polishes over the last couple of weeks and haven’t been able to get good photos of them. One is a very special polish made for me, Toni the Frog, lol! (Yes, I have a thing for frogs and toads!) It’s a bright and beautiful tree-frog green with holo glitter!  Among the goodies… a Chanel for me to try out, the coveted LE CK Summer Love and Illamasqua Rampage!! I can’t wait to show you all the goodies!! It’s a swapaholic’s dream.

DH went shopping today for a light box and came back with materials to make one! It’s HUGE! He decided to make the frame from 1/2″ pvc pipe and fittings for more stability and longer use. The fittings are glued together to make it permanent. He purchased reflective clip lights from Home Depot (where he also got the pvc and had it cut) and muslin fabric from JoAnn’s. I plan to use masking tape to put the fabric on so I can change it or wash it. After it’s set up, I put a piece of Bristol Board in the back and voila’! I’ll have my light box!

We still have to glue it together, put on the fabric, yada yada…. a job for the morning, but I’m excited!!

Rescue Beauty Lounge Stormy

Rescue Beauty Lounge Stormy

Rescue Beauty Lounge Stormy

This picture pulls MUCH more blue than the polish actually is. The photo below shows the shade more accurately, but also shows the weird nail ridges I have from pushing my cuticles too hard or possibly buffing. The color, I love. It’s a medium gray, better than overcast sky, more like factory fumes. Very clearly gray and not blue. The formula is superb, of course, and it goes on perfectly. Next sale, I’m all in!
I’ve never seen this before and don’t know what it is, but it ISN’T the polish! If you can tell me, please do! I’m about to post it on mua, too. Someone will know!

Here’s what the polish really looks more like:

RBL Stormy with MY weird nail ridges

RBL Stormy with MY weird nail ridges

So here is the more accurate color taken under incandescent light. You can clearly see the horizontal ridges caused by something I’ve done to my nails. I’ve never seen this before and don’t know what it is, but it ISN’T the polish! If you can tell me, please do! I’m about to post it on mua, too. Someone will know! (I hope!) I’ve been leaving my cuticles alone, and they aren’t really growing back to the bed yet, so pardon any unsightly cuticles.

Thanks for looking! I’m very far behind in swatching due to the weather, but found a great make your own lightbox tutorial! http://digital-photography-school.com/how-to-make-a-inexpensive-light-tent

I heard some of the talk on mua and checked out wowsocool.com and they do indeed have new plates. The ordering says coming soon! Several new pretties to play with! YAY! Icluding POLKA DOTS!!!

Basic Color Wheeeeeee….l!

Basic Color Wheel

Basic Color Wheel

Just so we know where we are in the wheel, this very basic one is helpful! It’s from www.montessoriforeveryone.com. Click on it and it’ll get a little bigger.

If you have a basic wheel or chart handy, you can easily check warms and cools, whether a color is more lilac or lavender (What’s the difference? Lilac is warmer, more red, where lavender leans to blue.) and also be able to see if it’s a match for your skintone or if it’ll make you look like death.

Miss Toni here says bs to the chart sometimes. But not all that often. Some colors just look plain nauseating on me, and I won’t touch them. Others are so pretty, they’re tolerable to wear even if they aren’t in agreement with my skintone.

There are a zillion kinds of color charts out there that get quite specific with the colors and names, hues, shades. I prefer this simple type, but would grab another if I could find one I liked. Color wheels are a handy thing to keep in mind when you choose polishes, clothes, decor, everything. It really influences the way we feel. If you don’t believe me, just ask the zillionaires that choose color logos for big companies. You can find out why fast food places almost always have yellow in their signs! (Yellow is known to stimulate appetite. I don’t know why! But now I’m curious to know!)

Have a Happy Sunday!! :)

American Apparel Polishes

January 23rd, 2010 by Toni | No Comments | Filed in American Apparel, Blathering about what today?

Again, no pics yet. I tried only one so far, Dynasty, a dusty medium purple. (I know, my color descriptions suck! I rely on pictures!) EDIT: I take back what I said about it being like an RBL!

The way that Dynasty went on… I guess I didn’t shake it well enough or my basecoat didn’t agree, because after I changed that it went on fine. It didn’t  smooth itself out like many polishes will (Orlys, Illas), but it did go on pretty smoothly. It took 2 coats, which isn’t awful, but I would tend to wear 3 to make it look it’s best.

AA polishes are $6, so I see these unique colors American Apparel has as a real deal. Again, I’ll update the post as I get photos.

Thanks for reading, y’all! I really appreciate it!! I WILL eventually learn html so I can make this site better!! In the meantime, thanks for sticking by me!

China Glaze Up and Away Collection

January 23rd, 2010 by Toni | 4 Comments | Filed in Blathering about what today?, China Glaze

No pictures yet. Battery died as mani was drying! I have some dumb luck sometimes, lol! Anyway, I wanted to be impressed and love these, but so far the ones I’ve tried have been pretty streaky and not as easy to apply as a typical ChG. Four coats of High Hopes and still streaks. Grape Pop fared slightly better as it’s more opaque. Drying time was a little longer, imo, too. I’ll update this post as I get some photos taken, hopefully tomorrow!

American Apparel Polishes coming soon!

January 20th, 2010 by Toni | 2 Comments | Filed in Blathering about what today?

I had a great experience ordering with AA and would like to pass that info on! The polishes were supposedly back ordered for a month, and I got them in two weeks! The colors are all cremes and look beautiful. I can’t wait to try them, but I just did a mani before Mr. UPS showed up. So maybe tomorrow I’ll have some good pics and previews of them. Unfortunately I didn’t get the whole set, and I should have… they are gorgeous. Can’t wait to try them. At $6 a pop, it’s a deal! Keep ya updated!
